While Indian restaurants may be a dime a dozen across the country, it takes a truly deft hand to bring in the true specialty factor. Helmed by Indian Master Chef Mohammad Javed, Diya is here to serve a delicately crafted medley of flavors.

Ranging from kebabs and curries to local vegetarian delicacies, the restaurant’s got several classic and innovative new dishes up its sleeve. Nestled in The Leela Gandhinagar, Diya as a specialty restaurant promises Indian cuisine the likes of which haven’t been seen before. The mélange of authentic handpicked ingredients represents a distinctive culinary trail from ancient to modern India, with the Master of Spices himself steering the restaurant forward.

“Chef Mohammad Javed, who is at the helm of Diya, brings with him over a decade of cooking experience and stories from the lineage of Nizams of Hyderabad and Lucknow’s famous Tundai Kebabs and Kakori Kebabs to complete the package,” says Jaideep Anand, Vice President and General Manager, The Leela Gandhinagar and Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre Complex.

The menu is evidently intricately curated, featuring everything from the succulent Hyderabadi Jalli Kebab to a delicate Indian Ocean Lobster. These aside, there are several biryanis, dals, and breads to choose from.

Diya also prides itself on having something on offer for vegetarians. Deviating from the usual paneer and mushroom offerings, this uber luxurious dining experience offers a wide variety of vegetarian options, including many delectable treats from the Northwest Frontier cuisine to indulge in.

The Gucchi Satavri Kashmiri in particular is sure to be one of the items to catch your attention. The dish sounds simple enough, just morels cooked with green asparagus and edamame beans in a fenugreek flavored almond gravy.

To round off the heavenly experience, there’s innovative desserts full of promised indulgence. From the Aam Aur Elaichi Ka Brulee to the Diya Dessert Tasting—a degustation curated by chefs—there’s plenty of exploration left to be done even as our waistbands continue to get tighter!

“Culinary excellence is an integral part of The Leela experience. Diya is the jewel of The Leela Gandhinagar, and its launch further enhances the culinary offerings. We are confident Diya will be the new address for all food connoisseurs of the twin cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar to revisit their happy culinary memories,” he adds.

While the food remains at the cornerstone of the restaurant, Diya is also all about opulent interiors that create the perfect set-up for a premium experience. There’s an almost stimulating sense of curiosity created by an interesting play of light on the carved contours of the silver metallic ceiling.

The interiors of the Diya are elegantly anointed with champagne gold paisley brocade walls, juxtaposed with beautiful Venetian mirrors and artwork showcasing the archaeological grandeur of Gujarat.

For those looking to host exclusive intimate gatherings, there’s a gorgeous private dining space at Diya as well. Exclusively designed to create a myriad of memories along the lines of the artisan, it’s worth noting that an excruciating amount of time has gone into painstakingly stitching together the mosaic patterns in the ‘thikri’ designed walls. The handcrafted silver metallic ceiling compliments the contemporary chandeliers and lends dining at Diya a magical experience.

The Leela Gandhinagar is well known for being a magnificent 318-room hotel that blends modern elegance with Gujarat’s vibrant old-world traditions. Given its proximity business centre areas in the city, it serves as a great destination for corporate meetings and conferences.

For those looking to mix a little culinary pleasure with business, there’s nothing that says confident and knowledgeable like picking Diya to dine.
