By far the most beautiful rooftop bar in Mumbai, nay India, Aer is among our favourite bars and most romantic restaurants in the country. The 34th-floor bar is perfect for breezy evenings, spectacular views of the city as the sun sets and heady cocktails, and music that goes from jazz to funk and house.
Gallops, Mahalaxmi Race Course, Mumbai
Don’t go by the fact that Gallops is decades old. Its gorgeous alfresco dining area, which opened last year, is its best-kept secret. Pretty fairy lights hanging from the trees, beautiful views of the racecourse and loungy sofas make it a perfect date destination and one of the most romantic restaurants.
Grasshopper, Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore
Grasshopper is a restaurant you go to if you want to gift your date an elaborate seven-course dinner. The alfresco restaurant is located within a sprawling farmhouse, surrounded by bamboo thickets and gentle pools, which will make you forget the crazy Bangalore traffic is just five minutes away. Dine to the tune of soothing jazz and gaze at the twinkling lights and the stars.

Overlooking the gorgeous Sal River as it meets the Arabian Sea, this Italian restaurant is one of our favourite romantic settings in South Goa. The setting is dreamy and the food served by Chef Lenin Sreedharan is imaginative and innovative. The serene ambience will take over your senses, as you dine on the banks of the Sal River in a destination known for its beaches.
Sheesh Mahal, The Leela Palace, Udaipur
If you get a chance to dine at Sheesh Mahal, take the corner seat in that little enclave that sticks out over the lake, with nothing but the inky blue night sky and Lake Pichola in view. The spectacular views of the lake and the heritage city are an unforgettable experience. But before that, take a walk in their wine cellar and choose your wine for the night.
1135 AD, Jaipur
Dining at the rooftop restaurant within the majestic Amber Fort will make you feel like an imperial couple. 1135 AD derives its name from the year in which the Kachwaha clan founded the dynasty of the Rajputs. It has a breezy open-air courtyard, a formal dining room and a private dining space, Sheesh Mahal, which is beautifully crafted using silver and gold. Feast with your date by candlelight on tandoori quail, laal maas and Amber gosht, or the ornately plated Thaal–e–Jodha If you are a vegetarian. Finish the meal with the shahi tukda or rose ice cream. The chefs of 1135 AD recreate the centuries-old local royal recipes that were closely guarded by palace cooks.
