Ten days post the close of the Chinese or Lunar New year festivities, Andaz Delhi is here to prove the party’s only begun! In honour of the Year of the Tiger, Juniper Bar – India’s first gin bar, at Andaz Delhi has launched twelve new cocktails!
Part of Juniper Bar’s Zodiac Cocktail Menu, these twelve cocktails have been carefully curated with the twelve signs of the Chinese Zodiac serving as inspiration. While most people conflate the Lunar New Year and the Chinese New Year, these are separate celebrations with the former being a reference to a larger Pan-Asian community.
According to legend, these animals were chosen by the Jade Emperor himself. The story starts with the race for a seat at his meeting table on the far side of the river, of which only twelve succeeded. These then go on to be honoured consecutively over the years over 15-day long celebrations. A time of great pomp, these festivities are marked by great food and quality time with loved ones, alongside several rituals and customs.
At Juniper bar, the names of all twelve cocktails are inspired by their zodiac animals. So you have interesting options like Cardinal for the rat, Yellow Emperor for the ox, Chariot for the horse and Sun Born Ruler for the hen.
