Since the brewery’s origin in Dahisar nearly six years ago, HAPI Beer has had the simple vision of offering fresh craft beer in its purest form to beer lovers. With their first restaurant in Bandra, they’ve combined their passion for handcrafted beer with their gastronomical love for all things food.

The interiors of HAPI play an integral part in setting the tone of your visit. With a sophisticated taproom vibe and walls plastered with creations from young artists, the place keys you in immediately on the good, or should I say, HAPI times ahead. You can purchase the art as well, so you can walk away with more than a good time and full stomach!

HAPI has made sure to credit the master brewers behind the delightful range of craft beers on tap along with a little preview into their stories. A cursory glance of these confirms that one can be rest assured about drinking in only the best of craft beers and lip smacking food.

In line with their vision to have HAPI clients, they’ve evidently focused on delivering the highest quality with the freshest ingredients possible. In India, the craft beer culture has only evolved exponentially since its introduction almost a decade ago. With their full-bodied, crisp, and flavourful offerings, this is one brewery that’s here to show they mean business. Right from the servings in-house to deliveries, they’ve taken no preservative artisanal beer to the next level.

Of course, these efforts have yielded in 8-10 regulars on tap, and other experimental craft beers on occasion. Choose from the Hapi Gold (Hefeweizen/German Wheat Beer), Hapi Wit (Belgian Wheat Beer), Hapi Rize (Lager) or the Hapi Red (Irish Red Ale). As ciders and meads gain popularity, the brewery has accounted for the same with their refreshingly flavourful Hapi Cider (apple cider).

The restaurant’s launch with Oktoberfest and incoming Christmas festivities have left plenty of room for limited-edition seasonal flavours. Right from the master brewers conceptualizing and creating to the time it’s in a chilled glass in front of you, there’s the literal taste of fun and happiness in every sip.

On the gastronomic end of the spectrum, it’s a mixed bag of offerings. The food has certainly been created to complement the craft beer and deliver the ultimate complete meal. Some recipes use local products to accentuate Indian flavours for the local palate, while others are firmly entrenched in history.

The extensive multi-cuisine menu features a myriad of Indian, Oriental, and Continental dishes. It’s definitely a food coma and some very interesting takes on the regular with their beer bites such as mezze platters, tacos and ghee roast, all the way to their burgers, pizzas, steaks, lamb shanks, pad thai noodles and even the fingerlicking desserts.

Special mention goes to the Mushroom Ghee Roast and Chicken Wings (that you can get in a variety of flavours). The bar bites are definitely a job well done and make for the perfect finger food alongside a glass (or two!) of beer. The mains on the other hand prove a little underwhelming in comparison. While there’s certainly a great amount of attention to detail, it simply doesn’t translate into flavours on the plate.

It’s the humble Brownie with Ice-Cream that comes in with a far more redeeming factor. The moist and indulgent dessert paired with a standard yet delicious vanilla ice-cream is the perfect round-up to a largely wholesome meal.

When the beer’s this good, it should definitely be accessible at a much larger scale. To facilitate deliveries, HAPI has a range of growler stations at their new restaurant. Growlers, for the uninitiated, are glass, ceramic, or stainless steel bottles used to transport craft beer and keep the flavours intact as intended.

“Growler stations are very popular in foreign areas where people prefer fresh craft beer to preservative-laden bottled beer. We are also looking at gradually moving towards internet delivery from our taps at retail stores in 1 Litre bottles to the clients’ doorstep,” says Dhananjay Naik, co-founder of HAPI.

The store vertical in Thane and outlet in Pune aside, HAPI has definitely stepped it up with their taproom in Bandra. Serving you innovative and premium craft beer, as well as food that is both gastronomically enriching and complementary to the brews, it’s an experience for the books!
