The all new ropeway has reduced the commute time between Dharamshala and McLeodganj to just five minutes!
Tucked at the foothill of the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas, Dharamshala attracts thousands of tourists every year, thanks to its spiritual offerings and endless mountain adventures. During peak tourism season, the traffic congestion between lower Dharamshala to McLeodganj creates a lot of chaos and takes hours for travellers to cover the distance of 5km. Thankfully, the newly-opened Dharamshala Skyway is here to end the travel woes, reducing the travel time to merely five minutes!
The 1.75-km-long aerial ropeway has cost the government INR207 crore, as per the reports, and was inaugurated in January 2022 by Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur. It consists of a mono-cable detachable gondola system with 18 cabins, each of which can accommodate eight people at one time. There are 10 towers and two stations. The top station is in front of the Dalai Lama Temple in McLeodganj.
A one-way ticket will cost you INR300, while the round journey is priced at INR500. “The skyway has been executed through a public-private partnership project between Dharamshala Ropeway Limited, Himachal Pradesh Tourism, and the Civil Aviation department,” said Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur during the inauguration.
