Marriott International delivers over 15,000 meals to Covid warriors

The group delivered hygienic and nutritious meals from its kitchens across six metros to 23 hospitals and Covid centres through Marriott On Wheels food trucks.

Across the first week of June, Marriott International has been using its kitchens and delivery network to deliver safe, hygienic, and nutritious meals to frontline workers, medical professionals and those recovering from Covid as well. Marriott On Wheels food trucks have delivered over 15,000 meals to 23 hospitals and Covid centres in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Goa, Kolkata and Bengaluru.

Says Khushnooma Kapadia, Senior Area Director of Marketing – South Asia, Marriott International Inc: “What both frontline workers and people recovering from COVID need at this time is a wholesome and nutritious meal that aids faster recovery and nourishment. Keeping this thought in mind and leveraging our expertise, we have curated wholesome vegetarian meals that suit the Indian palate and also meet nutrient requirements. Whilst adhering to strict hygiene and safety protocols, these meals are freshly delivered to COVID centres and hospitals, overseen by a team of associates from the hotel via a Marriott Bonvoy on Wheels food truck.”

The meals are prepared for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and packed and sanitised at the kitchens of Marriott hotels. Strict guidelines are followed at every step to ensure the chain of hygiene is maintained.

Given the scale of the operations, a large task force of Marriott Associates were deployed to assist in it. Stringent checks are in place to ensure the chain of hygiene and safety remains intact from the handling and preparation to the distribution of the packed meals. The meals are prepared and sanitised in the kitchens of The St Regis Mumbai, The Westin Mumbai, JW Marriott New Delhi, JW Marriott Kolkata, The Ritz-Carlton Bangalore, The Westin Pune, The Westin Goa and Marriott Goa.

As thoughtful as the initiative is, it involved a lot of planning beforehand, with coordination with the government and hospitals done a month in advance. Marriott International also partnered with an event management company, Toast Events, to better handle the on-ground execution.
