Made with only two base ingredients of cocoa beans and dates, TWT’s bean-to-bar dark chocolate is made in their own chocolate factory!

Can chocolate truly be made with just two ingredients?
India’s first 100% clean-label food brand, The Whole Truth Foods (TWT) says hell yes! The brand has just introduced the country’s first-ever range of date-sweetened dark chocolate. Made from only two base ingredients, namely cocoa beans and dates, this wide range of bean-to-bar dark chocolates is crafted in-house.
While dark chocolate is generally perceived to be a healthier alternative, the literal whole truth of it is that it simply isn’t true! Even a 70% dark chocolate bar uses 30% sugar, often refined plus some emulsifiers. And if not sugar, manufacturers use FOS (fructo-oligo-saccharides) or artificial flavours (in which case, you’d wish it was sugar).
Given their obvious love for chocolates, The Whole Truth has created this disruptive range of dark chocolate bars, promising an actual healthier and decadent experience.

Unlike the widely used compound chocolate that has hydrogenated edible fats and is loaded with chemicals and stabilisers, TWT’s dark chocolates are couverture (pure). They’re also vegan and contain nutrient-rich cocoa butter, making for a truly decadent melt in your mouth experience. The brand currently offers an impressive range of couverture dark chocolate variants, including the Hazelnut, Seasalt, Orange and Almond Raisin (55% and 71% dark).
In their quest to elevate the dark chocolate experience while eliminating the guilt (and the nasty insulin spike), TWT went the extra mile and set up their very own bean-to-bar chocolate factory!
When the team first decided to create a date-sweetened chocolate 18 months ago, they had a tough challenge to manoeuvre. Dates are quite fibrous so achieving that perfectly smooth texture of rich chocolate called for four times longer conch-time. And that meant that every batch of this chocolate had to be continuously ground for upto 22 hours! While challenges surfaced at every turn, the brand’s determination to provide nothing the best ultimately won out.

Delving into the details of the two ingredients, the finest single-origin cocoa beans from Idukki in Kerala and imported, non-GMO Saudi dates are used in the process. All the processes right from winnowing, roasting and cracking the cocoa beans, to de-pitting and churning the dates, to conching and tempering the chocolate are done within the mini-chocolate factory.
If the attention to detail in processes wasn’t enough, TWT has also made sure to make the actual chocolate eating experience more fun. The bar is made up of irregularly sized pieces, making it unique from the get go. Marked XS (extra small), S (small), M (medium), L (large), XL (extra large) and XXL (extra-extra-large), this helps with mindful indulgence of a rather thoughtfully created chocolate.
The packaging is also delightful right from opening till after you’re done. While the outside tells you exactly what to expect, the inside takes you through the entire process. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a barcode with a fun surprise!
Whichever way you spin it, TWT’s latest is a fun and delicious choice for the conscientious chocolate lover.
