Rum has been synonymous with Christmas since time immemorial. From rum balls to pudding and even savoury dishes consisting of meat, the spirit has lent its unique flavour and rich notes to winter meals for years.
Indians have always been fascinated with rum, as a certain aged monk would tell you. Capitalizing on this love and elevating it with some experimental touches, Dushyant Tanwar, the Brand Manager and Mixologist from Monika Enterprise is here with a list of rum cocktails guaranteed to slay!
Whether you’re looking for a classic or to appease your fancier side, there’s something on this list for everyone. So break out those rum glasses (or jugs!) and whip up one of these refreshingly easy concoctions. With these recipes at hand, it’s always going to be rum o’clock this Christmas.
Old Cuban

Ingredients
- 45 ml Diplomatico Mantuano
- 20 ml fresh lime juice
- 15 ml rich simple syrup (2:1)
- 5 mint leaves
- A dash of aromatic bitters
- Prosecco – To top up
Method
- Build a cocktail by combining all of the ingredients over ice.
- Shake all ingredients & strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Planas Rum Macchiato

Ingredients
- 40 ml Diplomático Planas
- 30 ml coconut milk
- 40 ml espresso
- 10 ml walnut/almond syrup
Method
- Add all ingredients to a shaker, shake vigorously and pour into a coffee mug.
- Garnish with chocolate powder.
The Perfect Storm

Ingredients
- 50 ml Kraken Black Spiced Rum
- 150 ml ginger ale
- 1 lime wedge
Method
- Combine all ingredients in a glass filled with ice.
- Stir to mix and enjoy!
Rum Mule

Ingredients
- 50 ml Mantuano
- 100 ml ginger beer
- 10 ml lime juice
- Ice
Method
- In a highball glass, combine all of the ingredients.
- Swirl with a stirrer and top with ice.
XO Old Fashioned

Ingredients
- 50 ml Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva
- 1 bar spoon of rich simple syrup
- 3 dashes of chocolate bitters
Method
- Stir all ingredients in a chilled mixing glass.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or a rocks glass with ice. Garnish with an orange twist.
Black Mojito

Ingredients
- 50 ml Kraken Black Spiced Rum
- 6-8 mint leaves
- 6-8 lime wedges
- 20 ml sugar syrup (2:1)
- 50-60 ml soda water
Method
- Muddle the lime and the sugar together. Clap the mint leaves and add it all to the glass.
- Add the Kraken and stir together with cracked ice.
- Top up with soda.
