Bring the bar home and celebrate the ‘water of life’ with these delicious whisky cocktail recipes on this World Whisky Day.

World Whisky Day is celebrated every third Saturday of May, and is a call to enjoy the ‘water of life’ for one and all. While whisky is often associated with premium and exclusive brands, the idea behind World Whisky Day is that of inclusivity.

Usually, the day is marked by tastings, gatherings and celebrations, although this year, understandably, things are quite different. But that doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy the essence of the day. All you need, after all, is just the spirit (pun intended).

Here are 13 whisky recipes to celebrate World Whisky Day safely at home.


Orange Mingle

Glenmorangie Orange Mingle

Ingredients:

  • 45ml Glenmorangie Original
  • 2ml orange marmalade
  • 10ml Aperol
  • 15ml lemon juice
  • 10ml orange juice
  • 25ml egg white
  • Orange bitters and edible flowers for garnishing

Preparation

Add all ingredients to a shaker and reverse dry shake.

Double strain into a nick and nora glass.

Garnish with bitters and edible flowers.


Talisker 10 Sour

Talisker 10 Sour

Ingredients:

  • 60ml Talisker 10YO
  • 10ml sugar syrup
  • 20ml lime juice
  • 1 egg white
  • A lime or pepper grind to garnish

Preparation

Fill a cocktail shaker or a jam jar halfway with egg white.

Combine Talisker 10YO, sugar syrup and lime juice in a mixing glass.

Shake with a lot of ice in a cocktail shaker and pour into a cocktail bottle.

On top of the foam, garnish with lime or pepper grinds.


The Orange Highball

Glenmorangie Orange Highball

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Glenmorangie Original
  • 50ml soda water
  • 50ml tonic water
  • Orange wedge for garnishing

Preparation

Fill a highball with ice and add Glenmorangie.

Squeeze on wedge into the glass and then top with soda and tonic water.

Garnish with an orange wedge.


Made in Scotland

Singleton Made in Scotland

Ingredients:

  • 60ml The Singleton of Glendullan 12YO
  • 10ml sugar syrup
  • 20ml lime juice
  • 3 slices of cucumber
  • 4 sprigs of mint
  • Cucumber slice with mint to garnish

Preparation

Add cucumber slices and mint sprigs to a cocktail shaker.

Combine Singleton, lime juice and sugar syrup in a mixing bowl.

Garnish it with a cucumber slice with mint.


Glenmorangie Ginger Lemon

Glenmorangie Ginger Lemon

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Glenmorangie Original
  • 7.5ml sweet vermouth
  • 7.5ml ginger syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • Lemon twist, crystallised ginger for garnishing

Preparation

Add all ingredients to mixing glass filled with ice.

Stir until well chilled, strain into an old-fashioned glass with a block of ice.

Garnish with a lemon twist and crystallised ginger.


Apple Dog

Apple Dog

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Copper Dog
  • 100ml Granny Smith Apple Juice
  • 2 slices of Apple
  • Apple slices to garnish

Preparation

Add ice to a glass and pour Copper Dog over the top.

Fill glass with apple juice and garnish with apple slices.


Shortie’s Dirty Daiquiri

Shorties Dirty Daiquiri

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Ardbeg 10 Years Old
  • 20ml cloudy apple juice
  • 20ml fresh lime juice
  • 10ml vanilla syrup

Preparation

Shake all ingredients over ice before straining into a chilled coupe glass.


Black & White Royalty

Black & White Royalty

Ingredients:

  • 60ml Black & White Scotch
  • 10ml cinnamon syrup
  • 20ml lime juice
  • 100ml ginger ale
  • 3-4 ice cubes

Preparation

Fill your highball glass with some ice and pour Black & White Scotch into it.

Pour fresh lime juice and cinnamon syrup on top.

Top it up with ginger ale.


Weird Island Highball

Weird Island Highball

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Ardbeg 10 Years Old
  • 20ml strawberry liqueur
  • 120ml tonic water
  • Rosemary sprig and lime wedge for garnishing

Preparation

Add Ardbeg and strawberry liqueur in an ice-filled highball glass.

Top up with tonic water.

Garnish with Rosemary sprig and lime wedge.


Manhattan

Manhattan

Ingredients:

  • 45ml bourbon whiskey
  • 15ml sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters

Preparation

Stir well with ice and pour into a chilled coupette glass.

Garnish with orange zest.


The King’s Last Dram

The King's Last Dram

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Ardbeg 10 Years Old
  • 15ml raspberry syrup
  • 20ml fresh lemon juice
  • 10ml egg white
  • 2 slices of banana
  • 1 dash salt solution
  • Crispy bacon for garnishing

Preparation

Dry shake all ingredients before adding ice and shaking again.

Strain into a tumbler filled with a block of ice.

Garnish with crispy bacon wafer.


Old Fashioned

Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 60ml bourbon whiskey
  • 3 dashes of Angostura Bitters
  • 1 cube or sachet of sugar

Preparation

Stir all ingredients well and pour into a rock glass with ice cubes.

Garnish with orange zest


Black Dog Happiness

Black Dog Happiness

Ingredients:

  • 60ml Black Dog Triple Gold Reserve Scotch
  • 10ml sugar syrup
  • 20ml apple juice
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 1 wedge of lime
  • Cinnamon stick and thin slices of apple to garnish

Preparation

Muddle the cinnamon stick and lime wedge with some sugar syrup.

Shake it up with the apple juice and Black Dog Black Reserve Scotch.

Strain it into an ice-filled glass.

Add a cinnamon stick and thin apple slices to garnish.
