Most parts of the desert state of Rajasthan are currently experiencing a serious dip in the temperatures and cold wave conditions.
This is the time when the air gets nippier and nights become chilly around most parts of Rajasthan every year. But the desert state is currently experiencing a record dip in mercury, and people were in for a surprise this season when the hill station of Mount Abu started experiencing snowfall! The city of Churu, gateway to the Thar Desert, also recorded zero degree Celsius.
Locals and tourists on the Aravalli plateau of Mount Abu recently woke up to snow-covered grounds and glass sheets on vehicles. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), visibility across most of the northern states is running poor, with Bikaner in Rajasthan recording “zero visibility”. The visibility in Churu is also recorded at 50 metres.
Northern India is in the grip of extreme weather conditions with many parts experiencing cold wave conditions. Fog leading to poor visibility has continued to disrupt road, train, and air traffic. The IMD has predicted severe cold wave conditions in north Rajasthan during next few days.
Places to visit in Mount Abu
Bordering Gujarat to its left, Rajasthan’s only hill station, Mount Abu is tucked away amidst lush, green forests on the state’s highest mountain at the southwestern end of the Aravalli Hills. The town is surrounded by a 289-sq-km wildlife sanctuary, which is home to Indian leopard, striped hyena, pangolin, Indian fox, wild boar, and more.
There are over 80 temples and shrines here. Built between the 11th and 13th century, Delwara Jain Temples is one of the best places to visit in Mount Abu, featuring spectacular architectural designs and intricate carvings on radiant white marble stone. Nakki Lake is often referred to as Mount Abu’s “love lake” because of its lush green environs and clean blue water that lend it a romantic feel.
