Maka Zai, white and gold craft rum proudly distilled on Indian soil and nourished by the sweet waters of Goa has been making waves for a while now. Konkani for ‘I want’, it represents what manufacturers Stilldistilling Spirits want — “for you to enjoy delicious, quality rum that’s worth your time and money.”

On the occasion of World Rum Day this Saturday, 9th July (World Rum Day is celebrated on the second Saturday of July each year), here are two seasonal cocktails by Maka Zai! Grab your glasses and enjoy the weekend with these easy-to-make concoctions.

Cacti daiquiri

Highlighting local indigenous products, this cocktail features the cactus. It’s a perfect monsoon cocktail as it brings out floral, fresh, and herby flavours. It’s also a no-frill, make-at-home cocktail that requires only five ingredients. 

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Maka Zai white rum
  • 20 ml fresh lime juice
  • 20 ml cacti syrup
  • 2 kaffir lime leaves
  • Ice

Method

In a shaker, combine all the ingredients with ice, shake for 30 seconds and serve in a coupe glass with some garnish. Yup, it’s that easy.

This is a take on the classic whisky sour; as this specific cocktail works well with aged spirits, it was a no-brainer to recreate it.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Maka Zai gold rum
  • 20 ml fresh lime juice
  • 20 ml palm sugar
  • 2 dashes aromatic bitters
  • 20 ml egg white
  • Dehydrated lime (for garnish)

Method

In a shaker, combine all the ingredients except the bitters and give it a shake for 20 seconds. Add in the ice, and give it another shake for 20 seconds. Once done, pour it into a glass and add the dash of bitters along with the garnish.
