Bringing together floating homes and smart luxury living, Ocean Builders has recently launched what it says are the first floating eco-restorative pod homes in the world. Specialised in innovative marine technology, the company will soon be launching a fleet of revolutionary living pods afloat in the water at Linton Bay Marina in the Caribbean coast of Panama.

First of their kind, these pods, designed by Dutch architect Koen Olthuis and his team at Waterstudio, are currently under construction. Perched three metres above sea level, these pods are going to be available in three models: SeaPod, GreenPod, and EcoPod.

What would living in a SeaPod be like?

With minimalist décor, curved walls, and an ultra-sleek design, the flagship SeaPod model sprawls across 77 square metres of space that is split across three levels, featuring a master bedroom, living room, kitchen area, bathroom, and an outdoor patio with panoramic ocean views. Expect amenities like wooden teak flooring, colour-changing lights, and wireless charging stations, automated black-out blinds, and sliding panel windows.

Thanks to the cutting-edge technology that is at the heart of Panama’s newest overwater attraction, guests get to control technology settings at their pod to unlock doors, open windows, handle mood lightings, and more by using the ‘smart ring’ that they get to wear.

Each pod is entirely customisable, giving the guests an option to add climbing walls, greenhouses, skylights, hot tubs, and patio gardens. What’s more? Daily essentials such as groceries and medicines are delivered by drones that have been designed to easily withstand open ocean conditions!

What makes them an eco-restorative home?

Self-driving boats do everything from removing rubbish, composting, and recycling to cleaning up the surrounding ocean waters. Truly sustainable, these pods have been designed to turn into safe habitats for marine creatures. Artificial intelligence cameras monitor what goes on beneath the waves, while marine detection technology is available to alert pod residents when dolphins, whales, or their other favourite sea creatures are nearby.

How much will they cost?

These futuristic units are designed to accommodate two people and are on sale now, with prices ranging from $295,000 to $1.5 million

When will they be available for occupancy?

The first overnight guests will be able to bed down in the pods by December this year, and 100 fully-owned units will be ready for full-time residents by summer in 2023.
