Marking 75 years of Indian independence, the unique exhibition at the Museo Camera in Gurugram showcases the works of 82 wonderful photographers.
Commemorating the historic occasion of the 75th year of Indian independence, Museo Camera and India Photo Archive Foundation have together invited 82 eminent Indian photographers and image-makers to showcase their work through an exhibition in Gurugram.
Organised at Museo Camera, the exhibition, ‘Drishti: 75 Years of Indian Image Making‘ showcases the work of renowned artists from different genres of the photographic arts, ranging from photojournalists who began their careers in the 1940s to emerging photographers of today. These images span photojournalism, documentary, travel and culture, street, portrait, performing arts, industrial, social justice, landscape, wildlife, fashion, wedding, advertising, architecture, and the environment.
Each artist has submitted four visuals from their favourite genre that best represent their body of work. Their combined work will deeply highlight India’s journey as a nation since 1947. Drishti is a kaleidoscope of some of the most diverse image-making traditions that came up over these seven-and-a-half decades, highlighting the changing face of photography and how it continues to shape modern India’s visual narrative and cultural landscape. The exhibition threw opened its gates for art lovers from August 20 and will be on display till October 30.
Museo Camera is an initiative of the India Photo Archive Foundation that celebrates the art and history of photography, as well as its journey and evolution. The foundation promotes a broader discussion about the content, politics, and aesthetics of photography, and it helps to foster a culture of dialogue about the various narratives of photographic archives that are treasured as documentary and artistic works.
Museo Camera also has studio spaces, exhibition galleries showcasing contemporary art practices, a reference library, a fully functional darkroom, and a café on the premises, in addition to the museum collection. The only photography and camera museum in India, it has on display more than 3,000 rare and iconic cameras and other equipment, tracing the history of photography from the 1870s to the ‘Digital Era’.
