Deja Brew in Delhi is brewing up craft beer, fresh coffee, and conversations

Deja Brew is the perfect new space to start off with an invigorating espresso and finish off with a mug of frothy goodness.

Despite of what its unique name suggests, Deja Brew is little like what you have experienced in the capital before. Freshly brewed coffee and beer pouring fresh from the tap come together with a fine cigar collection at this latest hidden gem in Delhi’s GK II Market’s bustling F&B scene.

Deja Brew is conceptualised by Naveen Sachdeva, the man behind Delhi’s first microbrewery, Ministry of Beer. The vibe at this hybrid brewhouse cool and casual, but the ambience and the décor remind you of an exclusive private lounge. First step in, and you’ll notice beer taps at the bar and a giant bird feather lampshade overhead.

The lights are perfectly dim, and there are little detailing like abstract paintings adorning the walls, lots of indoor plants placed next to iconic books, and handpicked works of art that we loved. Additionally, checkered floors, textured walls, and floor-to-ceiling glass windows compliment the mood board.

If you wish to be right in the middle of all the action, pick a table next to the throbbing bar. There’s also a second floor that offers you cosy, private corners away from the rush. Other than fresh beer, coffee, and premium cigars, Deja Brew also houses a collection of single malts, wines, and interesting cocktails.

We began our rendezvous at this hybrid lounge with the obvious — a tasting tray of freshly crafted beers. They have Hefeweizen, a German wheat malt beer; Belgium Blonde, smooth ale with mild sweetness; Neipa, a fruity English style pale ale; Stout, a dark heavy-bodied Irish beer; and Indian Pale Ale, a house special mango flavoured beer. Pick your favourite ale (we loved us some Stout!), and nibble on bar snacks like House Masala Nuts (roasted peanuts, almonds, and cashews tossed in homemade spices).

The bar menu has a variety of single malts, including the Scottish Lagavulin and Hibiki, a Japanese premium. We first sipped on some good ol’ Singleton, and later, moved on to the lounge’s signature cocktails like Strawberry Mint Moscow Mule Poptail and Beer Margarita.

The food menu is diverse, offering everything from quick bar nibbles to modern world cuisine. We started off with the creamy Chicken Caesar Salad, made to perfection with parmesan flakes and nicely herbed croutons. For vegetarians, their Quinoa and Barley Salad with sun-dried tomatoes, herbed yoghurt, seven seeds for the crunch, and a vinaigrette dressing is a delicious substitute.

Tossed in hot sauce, the super juicy and crispy fried Buffalo Chicken Tenders are topped with sriracha mayo, and served hot with house-made tartare sauce and a side of Asian slaw that give them a balance of flavours. A crowds’ favourite for a reason! Next, we tried their Glazed Vegetables Cups — veggies and nuts coasted in Asian sauces and served on lettuce beds were a little too pungent for our taste.

For mains, Rigatoni Pomodaro turned out to be a show-stopper! Served with a side of toasted garlic bread, the pasta was topped with some fresh burrata, seasoning, and roasted pine nuts, and was just the right amount of creamy and herby. We ended our meal with gluten-free Flourless Chocolate Cake that came dressed in chocolate oil. The cake is gooey, sinfully delicious, and melts in your mouth right away!

Safe to say, with many hits and fewer misses, Deja Brew packs a cafe and private lounge into one, offering you a hybrid dining experience that’s worth a try.
