Chef Ravish Mishra of The Westin, Goa, shares a perfect recipe for Wine Day. Stay home, stay safe and indulge in some wine-fuelled celebrations.
One of the oldest alcohols made by humans, there is evidence of wine from as far back as 7000BCE. While wine is made using a wide variety of ingredients ranging from rice to vegetables, grape wines are the most popular across the world today. Wine Day is all about celebrating wine culture and while this year, getting together with other wine aficionados might be ruled out, there are still plenty of ways to ring in the festivities at home.
Ravish Mishra, Executive Chef, The Westin Goa, shares this simple wine cocktail recipe that you can concoct at home and celebrate in style.
- 3 medium oranges, cut into wedges (or 1 cup orange juice)
- 1 lemon (2 3/8 inch diameter), cut into wedges
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
- 1 (750ml) chardonnay, chilled
- 2 ounces brandy, optional
- 2/3 cup white sugar
- 2 cups club soda (or ginger ale)
- Half cup cranberry juice
Squeeze the juice from the citrus wedges into a pitcher. If possible, remove the seeds and toss in the wedges. If you’re using orange juice instead, add it to the pitcher.
Pour the white wine into the pitcher with the fruit.
If using, add the brandy and the sugar. Stir very well to ensure that all of the sugar is dissolved. If not serving right away, place it in the fridge.
Add the ginger ale or club soda and cranberry juice just before serving so the sangria retains its sparkle. Serve cold and enjoy.
