Kerala’s comprehensive caravan tourism policy will soon become a trend across India, says Tiger Ramesh.
Earlier this month, the state’s first premium caravan — the LuxeCamper — was unveiled in Trivandrum by Kerala Tourism minister PA Mohamed Riyas and Transport Minister Antony Raju.
The introduction of LuxeCamper in Kerala by Bangalore-based Campervan Camps and Holidays India Pvt Ltd has set the stage for caravan tourism boom across the country.
“Kerala is the first state to come up with a comprehensive caravan tourism policy and it will soon become a trend in other parts of the country,” said Tiger Ramesh, Founder & CEO of LuxeCamper.
LuxeCamper aims to offer ultramodern road experiences to tourists traveling in small groups. The caravan tours will facilitate travelers to embark on experiences that involve interacting with local communities and stumbling upon destinations, which would otherwise be inaccessible.
The brand, which is promoted by former cricketer Anil Kumble; musician Vijay Prakash; former marketing head of Infosys, Subhash Dhar; and IT expert Phaneesh Murthy, has elicited tremendous response from industry.
“So far, we have received 198 applications for operating caravans and around 54 applications for setting up caravan parks. Since the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (KSIDC) has come out with a scheme to provide loans up to Rs 5 crore, the project is sure to attract more entrepreneurs and groups,” the minister said.
The posh caravan can accommodate four travellers along with the driver in the main cabin. The truck-camper boasts a cosy sleeping area for two people. It also comes with an optional tent that can be used for creating additional sleeping space.
