According to Agoda’s India-genous Travel Survey 2021, Delhi, Maharashtra, and Karnataka are among the five most visited states or union territories across the country.
Agoda, a leading digital travel platform and metasearch engine from Singapore, recently announced the results of its India-genous Travel Survey 2021. The Agoda survey suggested that scenery, food, and art and culture are the top three motivations for making travel plans among Indians. The research further said that people under the age of 35 years are less likely to get inspired by friends and family than 35+, and cite social media for the same. The 25 to 34 year olds usually get motivated to travel by history, while 18 to 24 years old take motivation from food. Wellness was chosen by most participants of 45 years and above.
Launched as a part of its ongoing campaign that aims to drive domestic travel in India, it also announced that Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh are the top most visited states or union territories in the country, with 48 per cent of the participants having travelled to the capital. The online survey was conducted in September 2021 in collaboration with market research agency YouGov Singapore, and had a total sample size of 1,448 adults.

Social media influences travellers purchase decisions, so by creating videos and social media posts, we can share our India-genous message and help drive interest in exploring cities, towns and countryside throughout India”, says Krishna Rathi, Country Director – India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, Agoda.
Talking of the growing popularity of domestic travel destinations, it suggested that 79 per cent of Indians have visited two to 10 states, with more than half having visited two to five states. The Agoda survey further reported that the people from the age group of 35 to 44 years are more likely to have travelled to two to five states as compared to the 45+ age group.
For the first edition of the #India-geneous Campaign, Agoda worked with four key influencers, including Saransh Goila, Vishakha Fulsunge, Kritika Khurana, and Larissa D’Sa who visited Kolkata, Puducherry, Lucknow, and Jaipur respectively. The second phase of the campaign launching later this month will see regional influencers visit different destinations, creating content assets that showcase the beauty of India.
