It hasn’t even been a month since Odisha’s Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated Welcomhotel Bhubaneswar, and the luxurious property by ITC Hotels has already bagged the reputed Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED Platinum certificate. With this, the property has become Odish’a first hotel to be awarded with the prestigious label.

GBCI India, a global authority on sustainability in building design, construction, and operation, is responsible for administering the LEED green building program in the country, which recognises projects that are saving energy and water, avoiding waste, improving indoor air quality, creating less environmental burden on their communities, and enhancing occupant health and wellness.

The hotel received an overall score of 82 points, en route to securing its LEED Platinum certification from GBCI. A landmark hotel with 107 luxury keys, Welcomhotel Bhubaneswar reflects the brand’s commitment towards offering sustainable hospitality to its guests. Some of the many green and sustainable features deployed at the property include the presence of electric-vehicle charging points located across five per cent of the total parking space at the hotel’s premises, a rainwater harvest pit installation to manage 100 per cent storm water, and water fixtures that reduce water consumption by 48 per cent. Additionally, reclaimed water is used for flushing, irrigation, and cooling tower, reducing the use of potable water demand.
