Heading one of the largest global networks of travel advisors, Matthew Upchurch, Chairman & CEO, Virtuoso, is a powerful player in the luxury travel segment. He tells us what PRS Oberoi’s presence in the industry has meant to the international travel community.
With more than 22,000 advisors 1,100 agencies and 2,000 suppliers, the 36-year-old company (it was originally API Travel Consultants before being rebranded in 2000), Virtuoso is an organisation with international reach. The by-invitation-only company was co-founded by its current Chairman & CEO, Matthew Upchurch, and his late father Jesse.
Upchurch recalls the great relationship shared by PRS ‘Biki’ Oberoi with his father. In fact, he says, “Whenever I think of India, I can’t think of anybody else but you, and Oberoi, and what you’ve accomplished.” He believes that Oberoi really helped elevate the luxury factor of India, its authenticity, its luxury, its feeling to the world.
