Meet the acclaimed Kolkata-based musicians who are all set to create magic at the upcoming TravelDine Jazz Nights and The Leela Palaces, Hotels, and Resorts.
It’s a swish Kolkata studio. The easygoing vibe of the trio of musicians playing here belies the deep passion for music each carries within his heart. Paddy’s Trio is an Afro-Cuban Jazz Trio, which has been studying the traditions and folkloric music of Cuba from Cuban masters Rodolfo Peruchin and Miguelo Valdes as well as local legend Monojit Datta. They bring explosive energy and intricate arrangements to their performances.
The natural-born leader is the charismatic Pradyumna Manot, known and respected in music circles across India as Paddy. A celebrated pianist today, he started tickling the ivories at the age of six. Having studied under the tutelage of Peruchin and many other greats, he runs the 12 Keys music school, is Director of the NCPA Jazz Collective, and is the one who brings together the much sought-after core band as well as various other vocalists and musicians from across India.
Bassist Aditya Servaia played a variety of music from Pop to Rock to Metal before he found his calling in Jazz and joined Paddy. Tamaghna Mukherjee, powerhouse on the drums, is known in music circles as Bihu Drummer. He too has had an interesting journey to Jazz.
One of India’s top Jazz bands, the Kolkata-based trio (which often morphs into a quintet as Paddy’s Hot Five when joined by saxopohonist Aniket Chaturvedi and vocalists!) travels across the country to perform at various venues and spread the love for Jazz.
Bringing their sound to you
For live music aficionados and Jazz enthusiasts at the upcoming TravelDine Jazz Nights in The Leela hotels and resorts in Delhi, Chennai, and Bengaluru, the terrific trio will be playing some modern Latin jazz. They have planned a set list that spans a wide range of rhythmic styles — Swing, Cuban, Brazilian and modern. Joined by Aniket Chaturvedi on the saxophone and vocalists Sana Arora in Delhi, Sartak Kalyani in Chennai, and Ahona Sen in Bengaluru, Paddy’s Hot Five will move into classic bebop and some all-time great Jazz songs.
