Book a luxurious island getaway at the Ritz-Carlton Maldives this June

Luxury villas, a private island butler and curated experiences that immerse you in traditional Maldivian culture await you at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Island, which opens to the public on June 1.

If 2020 has left you restless and longing for an escape, you’re in luck. Come June 1, you’ll be able to indulge yourself in tropical island life at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Island. Located at the Fari Island archipelago in the North Malé Atoll, the resort is a breezy 45-minute journey by speedboat or an even breezier 10-minute seaplane flight from Malé International Airport.

On arrival, you’ll be greeted by white sandy beaches, turquoise lagoons and coral reefs. The sound of the island caller blowing a traditional Sangu shell—also known as Triton’s Trumpet—will herald the beginning of your gentle immersion into Maldivian culture. When you check in, you’ll also be assigned your very own butler, or Aris Meeha, a concept akin to a lady-in-waiting or gentleman of the chamber in royal households in the Maldives. Guests can choose from one- to three-bedroom villas, each with a panoramic view of the ocean. Adding a local touch to each villa is a beru or traditional drum made from coconut wood. A circular theme runs across the resort, a nudge for visitors to embrace the cyclical nature of life.

The menu at the Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Island, pays homage to the archipelago’s culinary heritage. The signature cocktail selection features island spices such as cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, cumin and turmeric. The restaurant kitchens source seafood from local fisherman and fresh vegetables and herbs grown in the resort’s organic garden. You can sign up for a Maldivian cooking class where you’ll learn the art of making Mashuni, a breakfast staple in the Maldives, made with tuna and fresh coconut.

The highlight of the dining experiences at the resort is the sunset ritual, a tea ceremony based on the Maldivian Hedhikaa, at the resort’s Eau Bar. You can grab a quick mid-day coffee and snack at La Locanda, and for lunch dine on  Cantonese cuisine paired with Chinese tea and selections from an extensive wine cellar at the 40-seater Summer Pavilion that sits atop a velvety lagoon. Dinner promises a meal under the night sky at Iwau, a Japanese restaurant with two nine-seat teppanyaki grills where guests can watch the chefs in action.

When you tire of all that relaxing, head down to the Fari Marina where you can indulge in retail therapy, get creative at an art studio or brush up on your knowledge about marine life at the Fari Lagoon Coral Adoption & Marine Biology Center. Stop by food trailer Tum Tum to refuel with baos, dumplings and other Asian treats before you return to the resort all set for another day of watching the world gently drift by.
