Ganesh Chaturthi is observed all over the world, but celebrations reach a crescendo in Maharashtra, particularly Mumbai. I live in Delhi NCR, far from the frenetic heart of Ganesh Chaturthi proceedings. In fact, there was a time when Ganesh Chaturthi would go largely unmarked in the national capital, with festivals like Holi, Diwali and Lohri taking centre stage. But that has changed in recent years. Stepping out on Ganesh Chaturthi this year, I was greeted with loudspeakers blaring joyous songs invoking the beloved elephant god. And I returned home to a kitchen commandeered by enthusiastic modak makers. I’m happy to report that the modaks were quite nice. Here’s wishing peace, prosperity and many modaks to everyone. If you’re in the mood, do attempt the recipe created by Chef Ranveer Brar.

Modak

Besides salivating over modaks, I have been ogling at the drop-dead gorgeous images of bars in Marrakech, some with stunning rooftop views, others with lush interiors, and many with truly avant-garde drinks. Our drinks columnist, Vikram Achanta, was lucky enough to check out these bars recently, giving all of us some serious FOMO in the process. I was particularly intrigued by Le Churchill, a bar set in a hotel which Sir Winston Churchill once visited, and which serves cocktails inspired by him.

Our ‘Video of the Week’ is a hard look at Eight, a new pan-Asian restaurant at Phoenix Mills, Mumbai. Is this restaurant all that it is hyped up to be? Watch the video to find out. We also delve into the fascinating tale of makhana, a superfood loved in India, which is now the darling of hotshot chefs around the world who are using it to elevate dishes across their repertoire. Last but not least, we check out some interesting alcohol-centric experiences in Goa, which you should definitely opt for on your next trip to the state.
