Spaceship Neptune by Florida-based Space Perspective will take passengers up to 1,00,000 feet for suborbital adventures in 2024.
Space travel is the future. And Space Perspective has already taken it a notch higher by stepping into this thrilling territory with the world’s first carbon-neutral space capsule.
The Florida-based space tourism company plans on taking its guests up to 1,00,000 feet for suborbital adventures in a pressurised capsule. Spaceship Neptune as it is named, is expected to bring travellers to the great beyond in 2024. The brand recently unveiled the inside looks of the capsule, and the world has stopped to take notice (for all the right reasons!).
Peering down at the planet from afar, Spaceship Neptune comprises of three major section: SpaceBalloon, Reserve Descent System, and Neptune Capsule. The spaceship will remain suspended from an enormous high-tech version of a hot-air balloon. Space Perspective is aiming to begin with groups of up to eight passengers by the end of 2024. Travellers venturing to space in this capsule will experience a six-hour, round-trip journey, including a two-hour descent to Earth.
The spherical capsule design with spacious interiors is set to offer passengers more head height, and add the safety benefit of being optimal for pressure resistance. Its luxury Space Lounge features deep reclining seats, mood lighting, and well-stocked bar. Similar to an astronaut’s helmet, the reflective coated windows are fitted to help keep temperatures comfortable and limit solar gain.
Space Perspective worked on the design with London-based studio Of My Imagination (OMI). The capsule is patent-pending and currently in production near Space Perspective’s Operations Center at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
“Centuries of balloon and parachute operation and development demonstrate that always flying with the balloon from launch through landing, with traditional parachutes as a reserve backup system, is by far the simplest, safest, and most robust solution,” said Taber MacCallum, the founder, co-CEO, and chief technology officer at Space Perspective in a statement.
“Our proprietary flight system means that the capsule and SpaceBalloon always remain connected, and take-off and landing conditions are always within our control,” he added. There’s also a proprietary splash cone being added for a smooth and safe water landing at sea.
Since the spaceship floats on the edge of the space and never actually leaves Earth’s gravity, travellers will be able to walk around without any specialised training. You will even be able to livestream the entire experience for your friends and family, thanks to the onboard Wi-Fi and cameras documenting all the action. Tickets cost a whopping USD1,25,000 (INR98,99,375) per passenger!
