All you need to know about survival in the wilderness!

Surviving when things go wrong is easy if you know the right skills.

Here’s a list of must-know skills.

Picking the right clothes

The right layers are resilient fibres that can absorb moisture and retain body heat.

Comfortable and sturdy shoes are a must.

Avoid cotton and synthetic fibres, opt for wool instead.

Building a fire

Knowing how to build a campfire is an essential skill for wilderness survival.

Keep a lighter or waterproof matches handy. And put out the fire with some water or sand.

Working on a compass or map

You need to know how to use a compass and map when you are in the great outdoors.

If you have neither, try using the direction of the sun or NorthStar.

Building a shelter

A basic shelter can be built with some wood, tarp, and rope.

If it snows, find a cave, or dig a large hole in thick snow to snuggle in.

Handling unexpected wildlife

Research which animals you will encounter and learn what to do next.

Keep the camp clean; avoid littering.

First-Aid and CPR

Always carry a first-aid kit with enough supplies.

You must also carry a basic survival kit that includes a small knife, rope, compass, and map.

A signal whistle, needle and thread, scarf, and waterproof matchsticks are essential.

Finding clean water and food

Find a river or stream by literally listening to nature.

Boil the collected water to kill any potential bacteria or contamination.
