Many say that Negroni was first concocted in 1919, in Florence, Italy.
However, historians differ regarding its true origins.
It is believed that around the 1870's, whilst fighting in war, during high ranking military “meetings”.

Count Camillo Pascal Negroni would create some of his signature Vermouth based cocktails.

Which is now believed to be the original Negroni.
According to another popular story, it begins in Italy where bartender Fosco Scarselli worked at the Caffè Casoni.

One day a Count Pascal Negroni, asked him to make his favourite drink, the Americano.

In addition, the general requested to make his drink stronger by replacing gin with soda water.
Scarselli topped it off with an orange garnish, to make it unique from the Americano and voilà we have the now famous Negroni!

His family founded the Negroni Distillerie, and ran it as their family business.

The distillery is still operating but now owned by another family.

As it spread to the masses in the USA, it became an instant hit and now holds the status of a classic.
