On June 26, Celebrity Edge will be the first cruise ship to sail from US waters after almost 15 months
There is good news for all the cruise lovers out there. After nearly 15 months of being on pause, on Saturday, June 26, Celebrity Edge – regarded as one of the most innovative cruise ships on earth – will be the first cruise ship to sail from US waters, marking the return of the cruise ships.
Celebrity Edge will depart Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, setting sail on a seven-night cruise of the Caribbean, marking a historic moment for the industry. It was given clearance by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention to be the first ship back in the water, having met all standards for providing a healthy cruise experience for its guests and crew.
The cruise ship, which undertook its maiden journey in 2018, provides an exceptional on-board experience. Guests can book luxury two-storey villas with private plunge pools, sip cocktails from the sundeck of a private resort-within-a-resort, or enjoy the view from the rooftop botanical garden. It also offers the incredible Magic Carpet – the world’s first cantilevered, floating platform that reaches heights of 13 stories above sea level.
July onwards other ships from the Celebrity Cruises stable will start sailing. On July 4, Celebrity Flora will set sail for the Galapagos Islands, followed by two more cruise ships in end July and September, respectively. In mid-July, cruises to Alaska will also commence.
All crew members are fully vaccinated and all guests are also required to be fully vaccinated. The cruise ships will be sailing at reduced capacity and there is an enhanced medical centre with more doctors and nurses and state-of-the-art equipment on each ship.
Besides Celebrity Cruises, several other cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line, Cunard Line are scheduled to launch with varying vaccination protocols. They will be sailing from the US, the Caribbean, and Europe. Mid-September through October, Disney Cruise Line ships – Disney Wish, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy – will host Halloween on the High Seas where guests are invited to dress up and enjoy Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party, featuring characters in costume, as well as themed food, beverages, and crafts. Ships will be decked out for Halloween. The ships will sail from Florida, New York, Texas, and California.
